This course will help you explore the creative possibilities of digital textile design techniques, tools, and processes, from the design brief through to the completed collection, and will introduce you to the basics of colour, drawing, composition and repeats with step-by-step exercises and examples. You will use contemporary digital technologies to create and develop exciting designs and patterns, and then process them into output files which can be used in different methods of fabric printing and garment manufacturing.


Beginners to Advanced. Basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required.

Make a range of seamless repeating patterns in Illustrator and Photoshop
Turn vector textures into seamless repeating patterns
Drawing with brushes and working with layers and filters
Developing your drawings and forms with texture, composition and scale
Create animal print, geometric, floral and organic patterns
Create classic stripe, polkadot, herringbone and check patterns
Create a pattern from your sketches and photographs
Create custom color palettes
Adding textural elements using masking techniques in Photoshop
Using the new Adobe Textile Creator (ATD) to create the repeat pattern layout
Learn how to market my patterns-Create mock-up designs and presentations
Make your own project throughout personal consulting and feedback on your work from the course tutor.

This course is ideal for textile designers, fashion designers, digital artists or anyone who works or who would like to work in creative roles in the textiles, fashion, or interior furnishings industries.
